STUDENT CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • Age range 6 - 22
  • Mode Age 15
  • Average to high IQ (90 - 140 IQ)
  • Mild to severe behavior problems
  • Clinical issues include one or more of the following:
    1. Mood disorder
    2. Anxiety disorder
    3. Oppositional defiant disorder
    4. Impaired attention and concentration
    5. Learning disabilities
    6. Obsessive-compulsive disorder
    7. Tourette’s Syndrome
    8. Asperger Syndrome or PDD, NOS
    9. Lacks age-appropriate social skills
    10. School avoidance
  • Strengths include:
    1. Ability to do cause and effect reasoning
    2. Ability to respond to a contingency management system
    3. Can be redirected when problems occur
    4. Willing to learn and use stop-gap interventions
      to interrupt behaviors, e.g. use of time offs
    5. Motivated to get an education
    6. Willing to participate in therapeutic process
    7. Family support and visiting resource
  • Does NOT have the following behaviors or clinical disorders:
    1. Mental retardation
    2. Psychotic disorder
    3. Active drug or alcohol problem
    4. Aggressive/assaultive behaviors requiring restraint
    5. Conduct disorder (DSM-IV criteria which include: lack of regard for the rights of others, no remorse, cruelty to animals, fire starter, bullies and threatens others, etc.)
    6. Requires routine physical restraint to control own behaviors
    7. Current pattern of self-harm behaviors
    8. Borderline Personality Disorder
    9. Pattern of runaway behaviors
    10. Sexual perpetrator
    11. Conduct Disorder (as defined by DSM IV)
    12. Intermittent Explosive Disorder
  • Educational Agency and/or Children Service Agency endorsement and support of the child’s placement.
  • Family willingness to participate in therapy and parent training.
  • Eligibility for Special Education services under the IDEA criteria.
