Academics

The Learning Clinic (TLC) strongly believes that every child wants to be successful and is able to succeed. TLC provides a personalized learning environment that is nurturing, supportive, and exciting for students who learn differently and have had less than successful school experiences in the past.

Throughout our educational program, students learn best within a self-paced, mastery model that emphasizes and builds on strengths and competencies with personalized instruction. We have three learning communities—Meadows Primary School, Overlook Middle School, and Brooklyn and Applied Arts and Technology Upper School—that are sensitive to each student’s academic abilities, developmental age, social-emotional profiles, and interpersonal styles.

At each school building, the faculty to student ratio is no higher than 1:4. Curricular and co-curricular instruction is personalized with each student with one-to-one support from a certified teacher or teaching assistant. There are ample opportunities for group lessons and hands-on learning activities both inside and outside of the classroom.

The Learning Clinic (TLC) is a Connecticut State Approved Non-Public Special Education Program and accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
