- Age range 6 - 22
- Mode Age 15
- Average to high IQ (90 - 140 IQ)
- Mild to severe behavior problems
- Clinical issues include
one or more of the following:- Mood disorder
- Anxiety disorder
- Oppositional defiant disorder
- Impaired attention and concentration
- Learning disabilities
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder
- Tourette’s Syndrome
- Asperger Syndrome or PDD, NOS
- Lacks age-appropriate social skills
- School avoidance
- Strengths include:
- Ability to do cause and effect reasoning
- Ability to respond to a contingency management system
- Can be redirected when problems occur
- Willing to learn and use stop-gap interventions to interrupt behaviors, e.g. use of time offs
- Motivated to get an education
- Willing to participate in therapeutic process
- Family support and visiting resource
- Does NOT have the following behaviors or clinical disorders:
- Mental retardation
- Psychotic disorder
- Active drug or alcohol problem
- Aggressive/assaultive behaviors requiring restraint
- Conduct disorder (DSM-IV criteria which include: lack of regard for the rights of others, no remorse, cruelty to animals, fire starter, bullies and threatens others, etc.)
- Requires routine physical restraint to control own behaviors
- Current pattern of self-harm behaviors
- Borderline Personality Disorder
- Pattern of runaway behaviors
- Sexual perpetrator
- Conduct Disorder (as defined by DSM IV)
- Intermittent Explosive Disorder
- Educational Agency and/or Children Service Agency endorsement and support of the child’s placement.
- Family willingness to participate in therapy and parent training.
- Eligibility for Special Education services under the IDEA criteria.
